This is why North Amercians can condemm the Nazi holocaust while simultaneously providing it's inspiration; they don't feel shame for their holocaust, they 'overlook' it. The cultural meditation on the 'evil' of the Nazis has the effect of overshadowing the holocaust of the indigenous people of America, it's a way to focus on the issue yet never identify yourself as the problem. Each new generation must be a 'caretaker' for that 'overlook'. Each new generation must learn to DOUBLETHINK in order to reach adulthood. This is the death of childhood...the moment when the horrors of the past are understood and the endless work of overlooking begins. All work and no play...
